Apaya
The Apayas are described in Buddhism as realms of intense suffering. There are 4 Apayas, namely Niraya (also known as Hell, the Realm of intense continuous suffering), Tiracchana (the Realm of animals), Peta (The Realm of ever-hungry ghosts), Asurakaya (The Realm of the Asuras, a class of beings who are power-hungry and crave war and conflict, who are described as possessing similar merits but lacking the virtue of the Devas, led by Lord Indra (the King of the Devas), who they are constantly at war with.)
